Simon Bottrell

Hello. I’m creative director and founder of 7creative.

Passion? Building authentic, engaging brands, campaigns and reputations around the brave new ideas which will shape 21st century living.

Experience? Over 20 years in design, advertising and communications since graduating from University of Brighton with a BA(Hons) Graphic Design.

First job? Exhibition design, publications and general design provision for museums, art galleries and institutions including the Tate, Royal Academy, Design Museum, Charleston Trust, British Museum, Hayward Gallery and Eureka! The Museum for Children.

Second? Senior creative at Designate, a full service creative agency in Brighton, working on a variety of brand, identity and media campaigns for SMEs, corporate clients including Oracle, British Airways, Ericsson, EDF [then SEEBOARD] and charities including the Fire Service National Benevolent Fund.

What next? Needed to run my own show. Founded 7creative in 2000, working on a variety of projects from promoting local business start ups and artists to branding corporate sector organisations such as William Norris and Company [corporate hospitality] and Eutelsat [global satellite communications].

What about the positive change stuff? Had a legacy wake up call when my first child arrived on planet earth and co-founded Neo:creative in 2002, a creative communications agency for positive change – working with an exciting and diverse client base including Arts Council England South East, Counsel and Care, Hubcap Creatures, SEEDA, Global Action Plan, Montessori School, South East England Regional Assembly, Brighton and Hove City Council Sustainable Transport, Renaissance South East [museums for changing lives].

And then? Became director of Ethical Junction CIC, a nationwide ethical business network. Projects included membership comms, strategic partnership building with the likes of BSkyB and relationship management with sponsors, including lead partners at the Co-operative Bank. Loved bridging the gap between ethical business and the mainstream.

And now? 7creative sees the culmination of all that experience as strategic and creative gets equal measure, and for the good of future positive projects across all sectors. Diversity is fantastic, working on global business projects in the morning and then a local community group poster in the afternoon. Inspiring people too, most operating totally beyond self.

What else? Extra curricula activities: trustee of Ecotrust; associate of the Creative Coop; seat on the Brighton and Hove Social Enterprise Steering Group; co-founder and steering group member, Brighton and Hove 10:10 Campaign; advisory panel member for FotoDocument; seat on Brighton and Hove Environmental Industries Working Group; advisory role with Carbon Leapfrog.
